Family History

I was relieved to find a floppy disk this past week that contains my genealogy backups. My home computer has been down since last November, but I made sure to back up my genealogy database before the computer fiddling began. I've saved my data online now, so when my computer getssx fixed (or I get a new one), I'll be good to go!

More than anything, I've missed working on my genealogy since my computer has been down. It's been an interesting hobby, fitting pieces of a puzzle together.

The McLamb reunion I've attended the past several summers was cancelled this year. I missed it, and even George asked about it. It has me wondering about organizing a family reunion on my own. When? Where? How?

I have often thought about digging into my family history a bit. I can well imagine that the internet now makes this possible to be done from home, rather than going to a library. Where would I begin??

You're right, the internet has made quite a difference in access of genealogical information. The thing is, you can't always believe what you see on the internet (big surprise!). That being said, the LDS Church has a great site for beginners, including forms (start with the Family Group Record and the Pedigree Chart) and tips. The URL is http://www.familysearch.org/ This website also offers a free genealogy program for download, which can help keep things straight on your computer. I've never used that one in particular, but I'd highly recommend a software program if you get hooked on genealogy as I have!

(I'm not a member of the LDS Church, but I admire their family history work.)

One of the nicest things about the internet is that I've been able to "meet" and keep up with distant cousins I never would've met otherwise.

Let me know if you have more questions. I love talking genealogy! :-D
